Little Miami High-Rate Treatment (HRT) Facility and Pump Station Upgrades

Project Overview

This project will be delivered using the Progressive Design-Build delivery method to design and construct a new high-rate treatment (HRT) facility, upgrading the two existing influent pump stations, and building an additional disinfection tank at the Little Miami Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in the Cincinnati neighborhoods of East End/Columbia Tusculum.

This project will upgrade the two influent pump stations at the Little Miami WWTP to pump up to 215 MGD and install a 115 MGD High-Rate Treatment facility. Additionally, a headbox will be installed to divert flow to either the WWTP or the HRT.  The current concept for the HRT assumes Cloth Media Filters in a new building that will be built into the existing flood protection levee.

Additional hypochlorite disinfection facilities will be constructed for both the HRT and existing WWTP.  A dedicated outfall for the HRT will be constructed.  Due to the proximity of the Ohio River the new facilities will need to be elevated to allow for gravity flow from the plant to the river during high river conditions.  This work will also need to be coordinated with up to three other Little Miami WWTP upgrade projects occurring at the same time.
