Auxiliary Meter FAQs

Can I receive a credit for estimated flows before the meter is actually installed and inspected?
No, Section 1605 of the MSD Rules and Regulations does not allow for a credit before the MSD approval date.

Do I have to fill everything out even if it does not apply to my company?
Yes, every question should be answered on the Sewer Use Customer Application and Auxiliary Sewerage Meter (S-Meter) Form. There may be some questions that do not apply to your company. If that is the case, please indicate with N/A. Incomplete applications will delay the approval process.

Do I have to fill out both forms for each proposed meter location?
No, the Sewer Use Customer Application needs to be completed only once. You will need to supply a completed Auxiliary Sewerage (S-Meter) Form for each proposed meter location.

Can I email or fax the completed applications to MSD?
No, the original application must be mailed or delivered to MSD.

Is there an application fee?
No, not at this time.

Who pays for the meter?
The customer is responsible for the purchase, installation, and maintenance of the auxiliary meter.

How long will it take for approval?
If the application is complete, the approval process usually takes three weeks.

How do I find out the estimated flow rate (gallons per day) or meter size?
Your plumber should be able to determine this for you.

Do I have to have a certified plumber install the meter?
At this time, you may have any plumber or maintenance personnel install the meter, although a certified plumber is recommended. If there are any problems with the installation, the customer is responsible for insuring that the necessary corrections are made.

How much will the meter cost?
The cost of the meter is determined by the size. The larger the meter size, the higher the cost. Information for H2O Radio Read meters can be obtained from the Neptune Meter Company at (513) 851-8008.

Can I purchase the meter now?
It is recommended that you wait until your application is approved before purchasing a meter.

Do I have to install a Neptune H2O Radio Read Meter?
The meter must be compatible with the meter reading system of the utility that provides your water. If you are a water customer served by the Greater Cincinnati Water Works, you must install the Neptune H2O Radio Read meter.

Can I purchase H2O Radio Read meters from someone other than the Neptune Meter Company?
No, the meter must be purchased from the Neptune Meter Company. They are the only distributer that can supply the H2O Radio Read meters that can communicate with the Greater Cincinnati Water Works automatic meter reading system.

What if an H2O Radio Read meter will not work with my facility?
H2O Radio Read will not work with a small percentage of processes. If this is the case, a representative from the Neptune Meter Company ((513) 851-8008) will determine if the H2O Radio Read meter will not work with your process. You would then be exempt from this installation requirement, and be required to manually report your readings to MSD on specified dates. Failure to report will result in the elimination of the exemption, per MSD Rules and Regulations Section 1600.
